New Born Care Q & A

What is newborn care?

Newborn babies have many needs and go through many changes during their first year of life. Newborn care at Complete Pediatrics and Specialty Care ensures you and your baby get the attention and guidance needed to optimize health, wellness, growth, and development.

In addition to monitoring your newborn’s growth and development, newborn care also focuses on feeding, diaper changing, and bathing, as well as tips on how to soothe your baby.

The pediatric practice also has an experienced lactation consultant who offers breastfeeding consultations for new mothers.

What can I expect during my first newborn care visit?

Your baby’s first newborn care visit is scheduled within 3-5 days after birth. You can expect a comprehensive evaluation during this first visit, which may include:

  • Measurement of your baby’s weight, height, and head circumference
  • Check of vision, hearing, and reflexes
  • Physical exam
  • Review of sleeping and feeding habits

Complete Pediatrics and Specialty Care also asks about you and your health and how you’re managing at home with the new baby. They also talk about your baby’s environment and ways to reduce exposure to germs or other substances that may be harmful to your newborn baby’s health.

Your provider also talks to you about what you can expect during your baby’s first month and answers your questions about caring for your little one.

The practice also offers nonsurgical ear molding for newborns born with congenital ear deformities. To get the best results, the pediatric practice recommends ear molding start during the first two weeks of a newborn’s life.

How frequently do I need to bring my baby in for checkups?

Newborns undergo many changes during their first year of life, and Complete Pediatrics and Specialty Care schedules regular follow-up visits to monitor growth and development.

You can expect newborn care checkups at:

  • One week
  • One month
  • Two months
  • Four months
